Kadala Curry is an authentic Indian dish which is very popular in the state of Kerala in India. Kadala Curry goes very well with puttu, aapam, roti and dosa.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Kadala / black chana - 1cup (soak overnight and pressure cook with salt for 4 whistles)
- Chopped Onion -1 cup
- Chopped Tomato - 1 cup
- Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
- Coconut grated - 1 tbsp
- Roasted gram - 1 tbsp
- Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
- Jeera - 1 tsp
- Dry red chilli - 2 to 3
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander leaves - few
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
Method
- Heat the pan with 1 tbsp of oil and add ginger garlic paste
- Fry for few minutes
- Add onion, tomato, coriander seeds, jeera and dry red chilli
- Saute for few minutes, cool it and grind into a smooth paste with coconut and roasted gram
- Again heat the pan with 1 tsp of oil and add grounded paste
- Add dry spices - red chilli powder, garam masala and turmeric powder
- Bring it to boil until it releases oil to the sides of the pan
- Add salt, cooked kadala / black chana and boil it for few minutes so that the masala gets absorbed by the kadala
- Garnish with coriander leaves
- Serve hot with puttu, appam, dosa or chapati

- Black chana helps in digestion and lowers cholesterol
