Raw Banana / Plantain Nuggets

Raw banana nuggets are crispy on outside and soft on inside. This recipe is easy to make with very few ingredients & one of the best kids lunch box recipe.

Ingredients - Yields 16 pieces
  • Raw banana - 1
  • Sambar powder - 1 tblsp
  • Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
  • Bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
  • Plain flour - 2 tbsp
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Remove outer skin of the raw banana
  • Cut them into 2 inch squares
  • Boil 2 cups of water with little salt and turmeric powder
  • Drop the raw banana pieces gently and cook until soft but not mushy
  • Remove, drain the water completely & allow it to cool
  • In 2 tblsp of plain flour add sambar powder, garam masala & required salt 
  • Add water little by little to make a medium consistency batter (like baji batter)
  • Dip the cooked raw banana pieces in the batter and roll it in bread crumbs or crushed corn flakes
  • Heat the oil for deep frying and gently drop the nuggets in the oil
  • Fry it to nice golden brown
  • Serve with ketchup

    Nutritional Information

    • Raw banana is rich in Potassium and Vitamins like A and C
    • Potassium helps reduce risk of blood pressure
    • It is high in dietary fiber & low in sugar
    • Cooked raw banana is very good for diabetes, as it contains complex carbohydrate that is slowly released over time
    • Per serving (4 pieces) = 215 calories approximately
