Ingredients - Serves 4
- Green gram dhal - 1 cup
- Chopped onions - 1 cup
- Chopped garlic - 1 tsp
- Chopped carrots - 1/2 cup
- Cumin powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
- Grated cheese - 1/4 cup
- Tomato ketchup - 2 tbsp
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
Method
- Soak the dhal for 8 to 10 hours and pressure cook for 3 whistles
- Heat the pan with 1 tsp of oil and saute onion, garlic and carrot
- Add all dry spices and required salt
- Let onion and carrot cook well with the dry spices
- Mash the cooked dhal with a potato masher or ladle and add required salt (drain the water completely from the cooked dhal before mashing)
- Add the sauted onion, carrots in the dhal and mix well
- Make small portions of the dough into hot dog shaped patties and roll it in bread crumbs
- Heat the tawa and shallow fry the patties by adding oil
- Place the patties in the hot dog buns and sprinkle cheese generously
- Tips - If mashed green gram dough turns little watery add corn flour or rice flour to a right holding consistency
- Green gram dhal is rich in protein, folate, fibre, vitamin B1 and is easy to digest
- Per hot dog = 260 calories approximately
