Bengal Gram Dhal Sundal - Navratri Day 5

Cooked bengal gram dhal seasoned with Indian spices


Ingredients - Serves 4
  • Bengal gram dhal - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut - 2 tbs
  • Green chilies - 2 nos
  • Curry leaves few
  • Asafoetida pinch
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste 
Method
  • Pressure cook the bengal gram dhal for 2 to 3 whistles (it should be cooked but not mushy)
  • Heat the pan with oil and add mustard seeds when it pops add curry leaves, asafoetida and chillies
  • Add cooked dhal, salt and grated coconut
  • Mix well and serve hot

  • Bengal gram dhal is low in fat & cholesterol, high in dietary fiber and rich in protein
  • Per serving = 150 calories approximately
