Dudhi / Bottle Gourd Chana Dhal

Dudhi and chana dhal cooked with spice, onions and tomatoes



Ingredients - Serves 4
  • Chopped dudhi - 1 cup
  • Chopped onion - 1/2 cup
  • Chopped tomato - 1/2 cup
  • Green chillies - 2 nos
  • Curry leaves few
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
Method
  • Pressure cook the dhal for 3 whistles and keep it aside
  • Heat the pan with oil and add mustard seeds, jeera when it pops add chopped onions, chillies and curry leaves
  • Saute well for few minutes and add tomatoes, coriander powder & turmeric powder
  • Fry well and add chopped dudhi
  • Sprinkle little water to cook, once the vegetable is cooked add the dhal
  • Add required salt and allow it to boil
  • Serve hot with rice or roti




Nutritional Information
  • Bottle gourd / dudhi is low in fat, cholesterol and high in dietary fibre, iron, vitamins C and B complex
  • Chana dhal is a very good source of fibre, folic acid, protein and minerals
  • Per serving = 130 calories approximately
